The Consortium uses Trimble GPS hardware and software, including a community GPS base station, via a partnership arrangement with the GeoEnvironmental Sciences and Engineering Department at Wilkes University.  A faculty research grant of $1.5M (Dr. Dale Bruns and Dr. Sid Halsor, Principal Investigators) in the GSE Department was funded in 1994 by DOD ARPA.  This lead to the start up of the GSE Department's GIS Center which integrated the geospatial technologies of GIS, GPS, digital aerial photography, and remote sensing based on several National Laboratory models for environmental monitoring and assessment of landscape and watershed impacts.
