About RGIS Chesapeake Wilkes University - PaGIS Consortium

The RGIS Wilkes University - Pennsylvania GIS Consortium is an applied research oriented partnership that also strives to maintain currency in and connected to Pennsylvania's Geospatial Community through a living laboratory context. It does this by focusing on one-of-a-kind research, leveraged partnerships and tech transfer of best practices and lessons learned. The activities of the Chesapeake Wilkes site can be divided into 2 main thrusts:

1. Outreach and Education: To Local Government & Environmental Groups

The Chesapeake Wilkes site and the PaGIS Consortium emphasizes both eduction and Technology transfer of geographic information system (GIS) and related technologies to clients throughout Pennsylvania. Special emphasis of the RGIS related efforts deals specificaly with environmental applications and support for local government GIS deployment methodologies.

2. Research: Geospatial Technology Applications

The Chesapeake Wilkes site specializes in the research, evaluation and testing of GIS and related advanced information system technologies as applicable to: environmental/watershed assessment, monitoring and restoration, and the locally independent regionally coordinated deplyment of GIS in county government. The Chesapeake Wilkes site and the PaGIS Consortium specifically avoid efforts that could be considered production in nature or in competition with the private sector.
